Humberscapes is a collection of fine art landscape photographs by Duncan McMillan.
Duncan lives and works in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The floodplains and mudflats of the Humber Estuary have provided the backdrop to much of his life and are often evident as themes in his creative work.
His lifelong interest in image-making and photography developed into a passion as digital imaging became affordable in the early 2000s. In 2006 Duncan’s experiments using the RAW file format led to an epiphany moment with the realisation that this high definition format provided a means for photography to become an interpretive rather than representational medium.
At the time Duncan’s daily commute provided frequent views of the River Humber. This ever changing landscape in various lighting and weather conditions yielded a rich seam of inspiration. The imposing towers of the Humber Bridge became something of a muse, occurring frequently in Duncan’s photography.
Duncan has been shortlisted for Landscape Photographer of the Year with his photographs appearing in the accompanying book and exhibition at the National Theatre. His work has also been exhibited in Hull’s prestigious Ferens Art Gallery and featured in BBC Humber’s Three Quarters Sky exhibition which toured several galleries in the region.
