Muddy Waters

Photograph of rotten timber staithes off St Andrews Quay, Hull

The tumbledown buildings and derelict St Andrews dock have long provided rich pickings for photography. Ten years ago this was one of my favourite locations to visit with a camera – less so now that the buildings are inaccessible and undergoing demolition.

If you look beyond the famous Mr Chu’s China Palace restaurant and peer over the concrete wall to the river you can still see the remains of the timber staithes that once supported the quayside and mooring bollards.

This photograph was one of my early successes. It was entered into BBC Humber’s Three Quarters Sky exhibition which toured various galleries in the East Riding.
