Light And Shadow

Photograph of the Humber Bridge at night with the streetlights casting shadows onto the surface of the river

Another portrait-format shot of the Humber Bridge. This was taken one evening in February and the long exposure has softened the water and the movement in the clouds. Colour balancing the image to remove the orange cast of the sodium street lighting has cooled off the colour of the night sky to a rich blue which contrasts nicely with the muddy brown of the River Humber.

The viewer is drawn into the picture by the converging lines – the shadows of the railings cast on the surface of the river, the suspension cables and of course the silhouette of the bridge itself and its reflection below.
